Feedr 1.1 Update
After someone with an eye for design made some nice clean improvements to Feedr, I was inspired to add a few things and put together a 1.1 version. Matt Ebb sent me a version with a nice white background frame for the displayed images, and also changed the back to look like the back of all the Apple widgets. To that I changed the help to have a fun roll-down animation like sheets in OS X, and added a way to paste in any image RSS feed from Flickr. For example, since with the tags and NSIDs you can’t easily specify your contacts, now you can copy and past the RSS 2.0 URL from your Flickr contacts page and be all set. Ben had that idea.

very cool -
but refresh doesn’t seem to work consistently. i find it works at first, but if i hide and reshow dashboard, it doesn’t work any more. deleting it and re-adding widget to dashboard makes it work again, but again only at first.
also - why not make the window resizable and add option to download bigger photos?
I haven’t figured out why it stops sometimes. For some people the refresh seems to stop right away like you describe. On my machine it works pretty reliably except maybe every few days. I added some error handling, but the standard JavaScript onerror event doesn’t seem to be called through Dashboard. The shortcut to get it going again is to use command-R instead of removing and adding it. Not a great solution, though.
The different sizes is a good thing for the future. It’s limited right now because the RSS feeds from Flickr just have that one size.
Thanks for the comments and interest!
Feedr is great - however I also experience the aforementioned problem. Would’nt it be nice to allow to switch to the next image by clicking on the current image ?
Feedr 1.1 stalls for me constantly, too. A hint might be this logged to the console:
Jun 22 08:40:04 XYZ /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/DashboardClient.app/Contents/MacOS/DashboardClient: Corrupt JPEG data: premature end of data segment
I only see this when Feedr is active and running.
That is a good hint to have, and at least gives me something to check out. One problem I’m having is once a javascript error happens, Dashboard seems to shutdown all other javascript. Because of this I can’t, for example, have a javascript action when you click on the image to restart the refresh or even move to the next picture. But this error message gives me some ideas, like maybe there’s a way to verify the jpeg data before trying to display it.
Thanks!
I’ve loaded the rss2.0 feed form my contacts but it just keeps showing me random flickr pics form people i dont know. help
I’ve gotten another report about this, too. I’ll take a look and see if I can figure it out.
I’ve also selected the RSS feed tab, and inserted my RSS2.0 Feed URl, but the change doesn’t ’stick’, and I only get the random pictures. Help!

Hey, I really would love to use your widget… but the done button dosen’t exist for me.
Would you mind fixing this and emailing me when you have? I’d really appreciate it.
